Cake, stressful? Who’d of thunk it eh?
Since I started this business in December 2011 I have been pretty lucky in the fact that it escalated pretty quickly and orders have been in abundance, to the point where I have to turn work away. Anyone who knows me well will know I will always try and help someone if I can, so turning work away is something I hate to do. It’s not even a money thing, I do what I do because I love it. I wake up everyday excited about the days orders and when I might have a quiet period I’ve always got sugar paste in my hands.
Work in fact has been so busy that most days I’m working 12-14 hours a day. Balancing home and work life is incredibly hard when you work that long everyday, my son’s barely see me any more, even though we live in the same house. When I first became self employed a few years ago I was under the assumption that being my own boss meant I can choose my own hours. This is clearly not the case, work doesn’t just go away because I want to work 9-5, nope, work carries on right through tea time and family time. It’s sad that I haven’t put my 8 year old to bed in so long because I’ve been too busy working. Sure, being so busy means that people obviously like what I do, and I’m so grateful of that, after all I wouldn’t be so busy if it wasn’t for my awesome customers.
I’ve decided that enough is enough, I have decided to structure my days better and work less hours, this gives me enough time to manage my job and still be a good mother, wife and friend. If you’ve had dealings with me, you’ll know that getting a quick email back from me is something of a rare occurrence, managing work, admin, shopping and cleaning on top of all my wife and mother duties is pretty stressful. Cake, stressful? Who’d of thunk it eh?
So, what does this mean for you? In a nutshell, it means you need to move your ass and get your orders booked in with me as far in advance as you can. No dilly-dallying, no leaving the cake for someone else to sort, and no faffing around. You know there are family/friends birthdays coming up, hell, they’ve been the same every year, so stop leaving it to the last minute. Due to working less hours, means I’ll be taking a few less orders a week, which in turn will lead to more frequent booked up days.
Want cake? Book in promptly, it’s simple. What are you waiting for?
